Dr. Feng Zhao is a professor in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Texas A&M University. Her lab seeks to address the challenges associated with engineering cardiovascular, lymphatic and skin tissues for regenerative medicine applications. Innovative therapies are being developed by precisely manipulating stem cells, biomaterials, oxygen tension, and hydrodynamic culture conditions to create complex 3D tissue constructs with the structural similarity, necessary mechanical characteristics, and sufficient immuno-compatibility to facilitate functional in vivo integration. The biophysical and biomechanical cues that regulate the tissue development are investigated by the biomimetic replication of in vivo cell-cell and cell-environment interactions. Dr. Zhao’s research has been well supported by National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Science Foundation (NSF), and other funding agencies. She has published more than 80 peer-reviewed journal papers and book chapters. Her research products have been highlighted by various national and international news agencies, newspapers, and scientific publishers.
